Spring in the Garden

There is a new structure near our nursery. When finished it will be our new propagatiopn facility / mist house.

The Spring bloom was fantastic! Some people said it was our best year ever. We also planted more than 100 new roses this spring! We would have planted more, but the west side irrigation timer broke, and it took a long time to get it replaced. That meant we couldn't plant anything in half the garden. Now it's too late in the year to plant young roses, so we will be putting them in larger pots in the nursery for the hot months and start planting them in early fall.

Deadheading is under way- come join us and help remove the dried flowers so the rebloomers will put out more flowers! Besides our regular work days, we have deadheading blitzes on the second Tuesday of each month, with a reward of ice cream! See http://www.grpg.org/Volunteer.shtml#Deadheading.

Fall in the Heritage Rose Garden

Planning is under way for the event which will take place on the first Saturday in October. We'll have talks with demonstrations on rose propagation, composting and rose hips.

We are propagating some of our rare roses to sell at the event. If you want to help in any way, contact Jill (see bottom of this page).

Other news

Several generous people have given us donations for buying more roses for the garden. Thank you! We sent in our order and have about 100 new plants in the nursery and at volunteers' homes. If anyone is interested in making a donation for buying more old roses, we've added a page to this website on how to make a donation, either by mail or online. Just click on the link at the top of the page.

Workdays. Workdays are Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 8 to 11. Bring a hat, water and sunscreen, we will supply bypass shears and leather gloves. We'll show you how! COME and work in the roses for as long as you enjoy it.
