Winter Chores in the Garden

With the coming of winter, pruning and planting become the main activities at the garden. We need lots of volunteers to help with pruning a couple thousand roses, and we'll be happy to teach you how we do it. We also provide tools and gloves, so all you need to do is show up.

Our nursery has a couple hundred roses which need to be planted this winter, so we'll have room for more new plants. We could use a few able-bodied volunteers to help with digging holes. One of the supervisors can teach you how to prepare the hole, add the amendments and plant the rose.

There are still a few roses blooming in the garden. Mel's Heritage and Lupe's Buttons are still blooming on the nursery fence.

Planning is under way for the event which will take place on the first Saturday in October. We'll have talks or demonstrations on found roses, rose propagation, composting and rose hips.

We are propagating some of our rare roses to sell at the event. If you want to help in any way, contact Jill (see bottom of this page).

Other news

Several generous people have given us donations for buying more roses for the garden. Thank you! We will be putting in an order as soon as we have room in the nursery for them. If anyone is interested in making a donation for buying more old roses, we've added a page to this website on how to make a donation, either by mail or online. Just click on the link at the top of the page.

Workdays. Workdays are Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 9 to 12. Bring a hat, we will supply bypass shears and leather gloves. We'll show you how! COME and work in the roses for as long as you enjoy it.
